Gina Bliss is a classically trained clarinetist who performs a wide range of musical works from classical to new music. Currently residing in Denver, Gina is an active performer and subs with local musical ensembles including Denver Philharmonic, Jefferson Symphony and the Colorado Wind Ensemble. She can regularly be seen playing in the pit at the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Johnstown, CO .
Gina has a well established and successful clarinet studio with students coming from all over the Colorado Front Range. Her students have placed first chair in Douglas County Honor bands, as well as in Colorado All-State, Cherry Creek Honor Band, Citywide, Jeffco Honor Band, and Continental League Honor Band. Her students range from elementary school through high school. In addition to her clarinet studio, Gina works with the Rock Canyon High School Marching Band and the Marching Hawks (Horizon High School) as their Woodwind Coach. Additionally, Gina coaches clarinet sections at several middle schools and high schools throughout the Colorado Front Range.
Through her musical endeavors, Gina has traveled all over the world to learn and experience different types of music. In the summer of 2020, Gina was invited by the Denver Philharmonic to travel to Munich, Germany as their principal clarinetist; due to Covid-19, the performance was cancelled. She has traveled to Shenyang, China in 2012 where she was exposed to the traditional, ethnic music and instruments of China. Gina has also traveled to Arcidoso, Italy for the InterHarmony Music Festival (2015). Here, she performed solo works and in chamber ensembles, as well as interacting with musicians all around the world. Gina as also attended other music festivals including University of San Diego Chamber Music Festival.
While in school, Gina has performed in many masterclasses. Her most notable masterclasses were with international soloist Richard Stoltzman, and Kim Cole-Luevano from University of North Texas. Gina holds a Masters’ Degree in Music Performance from the University of Denver and Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Northern Arizona University. Her primary teachers have included: Jeremy Reynolds, Abby Raymond, Jason Shafer, and John Masserini.
In addition to her performance and teaching endeavors , Gina has experience as an arts administrator. She currently holds an administrative position with the Lamont Summer Academy and previously with the Colorado Symphony.
